A Truth We Are Believing
Psalm 84:1–4
How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God. Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise!
We are never really home until we are with God
A Way We Are Living
I will be posting a fuller article in the near future about 10 ways fathers of special needs kids can love and lead their families.
Here is a snap shot of 10 practical ideas for dads, and just to be clear there are more ways than only these 10 ideas.
10. Be the first awake and the last to bed.
9. Realize your days and nights aren't your own.
8. Care intentionally for your other children.
7. Absorb as much of the hard as you can so your wife and other kids don't have to.
6. Embrace your unique life and story.
5. Lead your family in reading God’s word and praying together.
4. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and delegate responsibilities.
3. Focus time and energy on your relationship with your wife.
2. Guard your family from negative and harmful influences.
1. Keep trusting in Jesus and don’t give up.
A Book We Are Reading
This fall and winter Amy and I are diving into J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings series.
But we are doing it by listening to the audio versions narrated by Andy Serkis. Serkis released these new versions in the last few years. He played Gollum in the films and his readings are masterful.
An Idea We Are Pondering
If you want to prioritize then first you have to minimize.
An Item We are Recommending
One of the best resources we have found to encourage verbal communication is The Hanen Centre and specifically their book It Takes Two to Talk.
We try to work through this resource at least every other year because it is such a good reminder. It Takes Two to Talk is very clearly written, simple, and practical with specific worksheets and tasks to do in your daily life.
If you are looking for a good resource to encourage communication with your child, check it out!
