A Truth We Are Believing
Hebrews 12:1–2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
The fact that the writer of Hebrews has to tell his audience to endure and look to Jesus means we are prone to give out and get distracted.
A Way We Are Living
One of the habits we established for our family over the years is the daily rhythm of rest time. When our kids were younger they had nap time. Once they each hit 3 or 4 (for our oldest with disabilities it was 7) they each transitioned to having an hour of rest time on their own in a designated spot.
Now all six of us have rest time for one hour each day. Rest time is essential in our home not only for our kids but also for us as parents!
Rest time for us means the kiddos are in their spaces, listening to or reading amazing books and resting their bodies. Sometimes they fall asleep but most often it's a moment of our day where we can catch our breath and slow down, even if it's only for 60 minutes.
A Book We Are Reading
We are book people. It takes a lot of sifting to find good books for our kids but when we do, it’s like finding buried treasure.
One of our recent favorites as a family has been the Love Comes Softly series by Janette Oke. This series is adorable and firmly rooted in the Christian faith.
They are peaceful, sweet and our kids have loved them.
An Idea We Are Pondering
Motion does not equal progress.
An Item We are Recommending
One of the most versatile safety items that we have used for years are Re-tracta-gates.
We have used Re-tracta-gates all around our house to keep our kids safe. More recently we used them to help with our puppy. At one point we were using eight gates at the same time!
These versatile gates have been a game changer with our oldest son who has numerous disabilities. Re-tracta-gates will not disappoint!
